What the site measures

Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate page-view, referral, device, country, and performance information. Cloudflare describes this service as cookie-free and says it does not use local storage or fingerprint individuals for analytics.

Outside the European Union, European Economic Area, and United Kingdom, this site also records anonymous reading signals: a blog post opening, reaching 50% or 90%, reaching the end, and selecting the next post. An event may include the public page path, visible reading time, scroll depth, the next public post path, and an approved campaign label.

What is not collected

The custom reading dataset does not contain cookies, visitor or session identifiers, names, email addresses, IP addresses, user-agent strings, precise locations, or browser fingerprints. Its records cannot identify a reader or reconstruct an individual reading history.

Temporary campaign information

If a visitor arrives through a link containing an approved campaign tag, that non-personal label is kept in the browser’s session storage for the current tab only. It is deleted when the tab closes. Unknown labels are discarded, and campaign links must never contain a person’s name, email address, or other personal information.

European visitors

Cloudflare’s country code is used only at request time to prevent the custom tracking script from being served in the European Union, European Economic Area, and United Kingdom. The custom event endpoint also ignores requests from those regions. The country code is not written to the custom reading dataset.

Storage and service providers

Custom reading events are stored in Cloudflare Workers Analytics Engine for three months. The private local dashboard retains only daily aggregate totals for longer-term comparison. Cloudflare also processes ordinary network information, including IP addresses, as needed to deliver, secure, and operate the site under its own privacy commitments.

Embedded media uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. YouTube and external booksellers or other sites reached through links apply their own privacy policies.
